Types and uses of common turning tools in lathes

(1) Types of turning tools commonly used in lathes

① Turning tools can be divided into face turning tools, external turning tools, cutting tools, internal turning tools, round head turning tools, thread turning force and forming turning tools according to their uses.

② According to the manufacturing method of the tool, turning tools can be divided into two types: integral turning tools and combined turning tools.

③ According to the feeding direction, it can be divided into left turning tool and right turning tool.

(2) Use of lathe turning tools

①End face turning tool (45°elbow turning tool); used for turning the outer circle, end face and chamfering of the workpiece.

②External turning tool : used for turning the outer circle, steps and end faces of the workpiece.

③Cutter: used for grooving or cutting off workpieces.

④Inner hole turning tool (through hole turning tool and non-through hole turning tool): used for turning the inner hole of the workpiece.

⑤ Round head turning tool (arc turning tool); used for turning rounded corners, round grooves and forming surfaces of workpieces.

⑥Thread turning tool: used to process various threads.

⑦Forming turning tool, used to process various forming surfaces, with high efficiency.
